Theresa Bennett
Socialist Alliance candidate for Vauxhall

Theresa Bennett was one of two London Socialist Alliance candidates in last year's GLA elections who saved their deposits - she won 6,231 votes, 6.2 per cent of the vote in Lambeth & Southwark. 

Born: London, 25 April 1967.

Education: Cumberland Comprehensive, London E13.

Employment: Welfare rights advisor for over ten years. This involved helping some of the most vulnerable people, like those with mental health problems or people who are HIV positive.

I have also worked, mostly in the voluntary sector, as a trainer.

Currently a journalist dealing with victims of racism and highlighting injustice.

Marital status: Single, no children.

Outside interests: Cooking. Walking - which I mostly do if I go away on holiday. Cycling to get around. I enjoy reading when I get the chance - I like both novels and non fiction, particularly about the Caribbean and black history. Cinema. Travelling.

Previous electoral history: In the greater London Assembly election, I stood in the Southwark and Lambeth constitutency and received over 6,200 votes.
