Forthcoming events

Wednesday 26 February
Mass lobby of the TUC to demand recall to organise against the war
09:00 onwards TUC, Congress House, Great Russell Street, London WC1 (tube: Tottenham Court Road)
We need to mobilise very hard for this and try to ensure as many trade union banners as possible. All union organisations should send resolutions to their own union HQ and to Congress House demanding a special congress as provided for in Rule 8k, TUC Constitution.

Saturday 1 March
Conference: Defend public services, debate the political fund
11.00-4.00pm Camden Centre, Bidborough Street, London WC1 (tube: Kings Cross/St Pancras)
Called by London Region FBU
This is a very important conference organised by London region FBU. Originally called to discuss solidarity with the FBU in their strike action, the conference has now been broadened to discuss defence of public services, trade union rights, and the future of the political fund. Andy Gilchrist and Mark Serwotka are confirmed speakers and in the second half of the conference Matt Wrack will be debating with a Labour Party representative over the political fund.
We are urging all FBU members and trade unionists generally to come to this conference. Registration for delegates is just £5. A flyer is attached below with registration details and return address.
After the conference at 4.30pm there will be a meeting for all FBU members who are either Socialist Alliance members or supporters in O'Neill's pub, Euston Road (opp. St Pancras station, just round the corner from the conference).
We hope comrades will do their utmost to get FBU members who have joined or who support the Socialist Alliance to come both to the conference and to SA meeting afterwards.

Monday 3 March
Debating the future: 'War on Iraq - Firefighters - Where is New Labour Going?'
7.30pm Friends Meeting House, Euston Road, London NW1 (rail&tube: Euston)
Speakers: George Galloway MP, Bob Crow (RMT general secretary), Mark Serwotka (PCS general secretary), Linda Smith (FBU London Region Treasurer), John Rees (Socialist Alliance)
Although the meeting is not being held under the banner of the Socialist Alliance, we hope all Socialist Alliance members in London will come to the meeting, build the meeting, and bring potential recruits to the Socialist Alliance to the meeting. It is a glorious opportunity to develop the SA further both in London and nationally if the meeting is a roaring success.
